The thing about living in a rural berg is that sometimes you go without the modern conveniences. We don't have a mail box at the farm, for example, we have to drive into Elizabeth to get our mail. We have a P.O. Box. I am expecting a package so even though I was up most of the night arguing the fine points of “whose territory is this” with my neighborhood foxes, I dragged myself out of bed to make the trip.
I stayed in the car while my friend went in to fetch the mail. Head down on the seat, trying to grab a quick nap, I was just closing my eyes when an aroma awakened my senses.
“Coffee”, I thought. “That's what I need”
I raised my head and was surprised to see a table and chairs setting outside the shop next door. A lovely poodle was lying beneath it. All buff and fluffy that for a moment I was distracted from the food.
“oh, your a married dog” I reminded myself but not a dead dog so I stared a moment before I realized that on the table was not just coffee but nose tickling eggs with peppers in a “egg pie”.
So I left the car to investigate. My friend came back and had some words with me about the car and while we were busy the poodle left. So we took the table. He ordered from inside the coffee shop. He returned with coffee and egg pie for two. I just wanted to sing “I feeelllll good”, after one taste of this delicious egg pie.
So he fetched my laptop and I started writing from the table outside the coffee shop because they also have wifi. The daughter of the owner came out and offered me some home made cookies. Hmmmm, they were "delish" too. As I said, sometimes we miss modern conveniences, but only sometimes. Wifi has come to Elizabeth and so has amazing egg pie. So if you are in the vicinity, stop by the coffee shop/art store, next to the post office in Elizabeth
Till next time,
Paws to ya,

Alpenrose Restaurant
European Fine Dining Restaurant at Vail Resort
Address: 100 E Meadow Dr, Vail, CO 81657
Phone: 970-476-3194
As I was reviewing all the restaurant menu choices in Vail, Alpenrose caught my eye with its Jagerschnitizel. I was able to get a reservation for the weekend for my wife and two friends. . The host was very nice and took our coats before we headed to our table. He was very personable and set the tone for our evening in the mountains.
I started with a cream of mushroom soup which was very good. It had lots of mushrooms and was not too heavy on the cream. I had the kasaspaeztle (which is like a german mac and cheese). It was homemade spaetzle with a cream sauce and melted cheese. It was quite good although I added a bit of pepper. It came with an excellent house salad that I would not have ordered but was so good that I am very glad it came with the meal! A simple dressing with lots of fresh vegetables like red cabbage, cucumber and tomato with a touch of rye came with it. This made it truly memorable. The jagerschnitzel did not disappoint either. It was made of mushroom sauce and tender veal.
My wife had Elk Steak, Forestier Sautéed with chanterelles and
cepes sauce. , which was delicious and Pasta “Romano” (Shrimp and crabmeat with angelhair pasta in a light wine and cream sauce.), which was also excellent. We experienced attentive and friendly service in a cozy, yet lively atmosphere All in all, we had a very enjoyable meal. This is one I can recommend for those who like to adventure beyond fast food and common restaurants. It was medium on price with meals running around $30 per person average.
Oh yes, save room for desert! They have some very special offerings of pastries made daily.

Put on your favorite comfy clothes, grab your friends or significant other and head out for great food and a movie.
We went to Panda Express the other night for a quick easy meal served inside so you can still linger and talk while you wait for your movie to start. Orange Chicken, Mushroom Chicken. Kung Pao Chicken, Mandarin Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork with chow mien or rice and
Mixed Vegetables are nice choices that they offer. Everything is cooked right there where you can watch. It’s reasonably priced, fresh and tasty faire. The restaurant was clean and other patrons were enjoying their meal too. It was a nice change from most restaurants. Not too noisy but not too quiet. A nice balance of oriental décor and western efficiency is found at their restaurants (It’s a chain) I went to the one off Parker Road, near Wal-Mart in Parker. There was a short line but it moved along pretty fast. The Orange Chicken is some of the best I have ever had. If you get a chance to try it, do.
The movie we chose was “Jumper.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this one. This is a very fast paced movie. It was a wonderful storyline. I think it was great filming in a movie full of unpredictable suspense. The story is about a young man who, possessed of a genetic anomaly, may teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds him in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and ‘Paladins” who have sworn to kill them. There is a lot of violence and it’s not for the faint hearted or very young, to watch this one. However it’s definitely needed by the plot to progress. They had a 2nd Jumper to help explain the “war” played by Jamie Bell who definitely spiced things up with daring and an ability to “jump” any moving vehicle.
I would have liked to see more “spark” between David Rice (Hayden Christensen) and Millie (Rachel Bilson) and the movie could have added in some more “fun”. Roland (Samuel L. Jackson) was one of a group of ''Paladins'' who are devoted to wiping out the Jumpers because, in Roland's words, ''Only God should have the power to be in all places at all times!' Then out comes the giant knife with which he dispatches Jumpers that he catches.
The last scene was a surprise (no I’m not telling) . It was worth the watch… just wish David would have responded to Roland with a “Then why did he make me?” when Roland made the Only God remark….
Laters…
